Within Sanxing township Yilan county, Taiwan lies the An-Nong Creek Diversion Weir Scenic Area 安農溪分洪堰風景區.
An-Nong Creek Diversion Weir main functionality is to divert water discharged from Lanyang power station to irrigate farmlands in Luodong, Sanxing and Wujie using dike weirs. Instead of letting the area go to waste, rustic looking stone bridges, pavilions, beautiful stone tables, benches and facilities such as cycling paths, wading pools, parking area have all been incorporated into the area to create a recreational area to enjoy the strong gushing waters and lush greenery of flowers or fruits dependent on time of visit.
Provincial government have clearly incorporated green efforts in their urban landscaping besides just serving the basic functionality aspects and it comes as no surprise it took them in excess of four years and 20 million TWD to complete the entire An-Nong Creek Diversion Weir Scenic Area.
While at the area, try spotting rare plants and birds within the two hectares natural park.
