In an era filled with turbulence and unrest, locals can only seek solace and peace within their hearts in religious beliefs. The East Gate Dai Tian Temple 東門代天府 in Kinmen county is a Taoist temple and worships Wang Yeh (王爺), the royal lord. While not much has been mentioned about the origins of East Gate Dai Tian temple, it is believed to have been constructed after the 1950s or even earlier.
With similar structure to all temples alike, East Gate Dai Tian temple have numerous cascading tiled roofs and upturned eaves which is a somewhat imposing sight to behold. Adorning the many roofs are two intricately carved mythical creatures, the Dragon and Phoenix which represents male vigour and fertility and splendour and beauty respectively. When together, they symbolizes Yin and Yang in perfect harmony. Sitting in harmony atop the roof are the Fu Lu Shou deities which are forever displayed together as they represents prosperity, status and longevity. Carved wall murals are used for the East Gate Dai Tian temple walls. Not to forget, gorgeous lanterns hang from the inner roofs as decoration. Be amazed by the intricately carved details of almost every single thing in sight, the earlier generation craftsmen really take their work seriously, almost to perfection. Kudos to the pair of Qilin guarding the main entrance of East Gate Dai Tian temple to bring prosperity and serenity to all who visits.
