Xitou Nature Education Area 溪頭自然教育園區 located within Xitou village, Lugu township of Nantou county, Taiwan, is a forest blessed with abundant natural resources and is surrounded by mountains.
During the Japanese colonial period, Xitou Nature Education Area served as a forest to conduct researches for the university of Tokyo.
At an altitude of close to 2,000 metres, temperature remains constantly cool. Should the weather permits, do hike along the trail by walking past a mystical bamboo forest with some friendly squirrels to reach the astronomical observatory for a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and sun moon lake far away in the distant.
If this does not make your eyes lit up, do consider a stroll on the 22 metres high, 180 metres long skywalk to get up close and personal with the wildlife creatures while admiring the nearby terrains during different seasons.
While this might sound pretty unconvincing, you may be in for a treat to catch a glimpse of the gingko biloba tree which is an extremely slow growing tree that can take up to 20 years to flower meaning that if a person plants a tree, it will take the birth of his grandchildren to finally see some results.
With a youth activity centre, bird observing footpath, university pond, hotels, restaurants, camping grounds and many more for visitors to thoroughly explore the entire area.
To be in tune with the surroundings and conserve the natural environment, architectures in Xitou Nature Education Area are constructed out of wood.
