Located within Zhushan township, Nantou county, Taiwan lies a mystical Wangyou Forest 忘憂森林.
It is oftentimes that people say we should enjoy the journey of getting there rather than just marvel at the destination itself as the former usually takes more time and effort enabling one to gain more experience in the process.
Start hiking up Wangyou forest from the open air car park located at the base of the tea plantation. At one glance, one might dismiss it off as just another tea plantation but look closer to discover the beauty within the tea plantation with gentle slopes cut into the mountainous terrain overgrown with lush greenery of tea leaves.
Wander off further into the bamboo forest where it could be quite a imposing sight to behold with the tall sturdy bamboos all around. Be thankful for the shade these bamboos provide for your journey through the bamboo forest.
A climb further up into the mountain reveals gorgeous
view of the surrounding alpines and when one arrives at a swampy area with fallen pine trees, that is Wangyou forest.
Wangyou forest is actually the aftermath of 921 earthquake in 1999. With the swampy area and fallen tree trunks, the entire landscape is eerily unique when fog engulf the entire area and when the skies clear up, puddle of water reflecting the clear blue skies depicts yet another different scene.
While Wangyou forest is a relatively new tourist destination, it has attracted a fair number of photography enthusiasts who specially make a visit down.
