Meinung Hakka folk village which resides within a small town in Kaohsiung county was initially home to the Rukai aborigines who were subsequently uprooted by Hakka settlers.
Stroll along the streets to admire the intricate handicraft works of skillful artisans that uses everyday items of the yesteryear such as handmade paper umbrella, paper fans, bamboo baskets and bamboo hats as their canvas to showcase their talent. Such fine detailing and effort put everything of this fast tracked generation to shame. Be sure to pick up some of these artwork as souvenirs. Do remember to savour the traditional Hakka food such as thunder tea rice, thick white ban tiao noodles in pork bone broth, stir fried intestines, stewed cabbage with winter melon and indulge in collagen rich stewed pork trotters.
